Where are my football fans? The season of football is upon us, soon my weekends will be packed full of traveling to away games and cheering on my #60 Offensive Linemen. If you've watched the game of football enough you can tell that during a game in order for the offense to score they have to either break through the opposing defense or outsmart them. If you don't score you can't win. And if you don't get past the opposing defense, you can't make any touchdowns. Have you ever been in a situation where you were doing everything right but still things were not going your way? No matter how much you prepared or how hard you pushed, nothing was working for you. Maybe this thing is a God-given assignment, but it seems as if God isn't hearing your problems. Facing opposition is a part of life. It is most definitely a huge part of the life of a Jesus follower. Just like the game of football, you cannot get to the goal without facing the defense. If a quarterback didn't have to go through a defensive line, he could probably score by himself every-time. But a quarterback without an offensive line moving and blocking for him couldn't face an opposing defense single handedly. Facing opposition is inevitable for you and me. As you are trying to be obedient to your God-given calling, the enemy will be right there trying to trip you up. But, there is hope. In Deuteronomy 31:8 it says, "The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed." Nothing that you go through hasn't already been seen by God. Even the bad things. However, the things that happen to you God is going to use for your good (Romans 8:28). Life is going to be against you, people will be against you, and opposition will always exist on this side of perfection. The offensive coach of the football team is training his offense to prepare for the defense. They will go through the film of the opposing team to figure out the best way to get overwork the defense. If you aren't preparing for the opposition, you are preparing to fail in the face of it. A good coach would never let his team run out on a field unprepared to face the opposing team. With God, you have the best coach of all, along with the greatest playbook of all time (The Bible).
Without opposition, we see no need for help. We start to believe we can do anything all by ourselves. Quickly becoming blind to the fact that God allows the opposition in our lives. We must be steadfast and disciplined in our time with the Lord. From that time in preparation, we will be more equipped to face our days with intentional purpose and direction, regardless of our circumstances.
