In a time where anxiety and worry is overwhelming the hearts of millions of people around the world, around our country, state, communities - what perfect timing God has with Easter being this upcoming Sunday. It is the PERFECT reminder that even in times like this where chaos is surrounding us, we have a savior who IS the RESURRECTION.
When I’m forced to be still, sometimes that triggers anxiety and depression in my life. I become anxious about where my life is going, what I’m supposed to be doing and what to make sense of times like this. I’ve experienced FOMO. Not because there are things going on that I’m missing out on, but because I am missing out on what could have been. Anyone else feeling fear of missing out on what could or should have been?
Have you felt anxiety during this crazy time? Maybe you are someone like me that is usually constantly busy. You love to be busy because it helps distract you from feeling doubt or anxiety about your future or your life. Right?
Let me share some GOOD news for you today. There is no reason you should be worried about your life. “Tessah, you don’t even understand what's going on and the stress I have right now in my life”. You’re right, I don’t but God does. He knew that the hard things in your life would happen, and he plans to bring good from it.
In Matthew 6:25 Jesus reminds us to NOT WORRY.
He says: 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
I could easily write out 25 things I am worried about right now, in this moment of chaos. However, Jesus reminds us to not worry. He didn’t say don’t take action or don’t plan ahead. He tells us to not worry, he’s got it.
Anxiety and worry is something I have had to give over to God over and over again. Sometimes it’s a daily thing.
Today is Good Friday. We remember this as the Day Jesus was hung on a cross, and died for our sins. Before he did this, he said something that echoed into eternity. Something you really need to hear today.
Jesus says in he is the resurrection:
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.[b] Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” 27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”
The definition of resurrection means:
a 'raising up', or 'rising up' from the Greek word ANASTASIS. In the verb form it means 'to cause to stand or rise up; to raise from sleep or from the dead'.
You need to rise up from something today.
Maybe it’s depression, anxiety, worry, fear, unforgiveness, doubt, anger, or maybe it’s a relationship, your past, your insecurities. Fill in the blank.
Friend, when Jesus says he is the resurrection and the life he is also saying he is what rises up and LIVES. You, as a daughter or son of God, have that same power. To RISE UP and LIVE. That’s what Jesus did for us. He IS resurrection.
I recently listened to a video by Steven Furtick a few days ago and he was talking about his topic. He mentioned that Jesus IS the resurrection; it's not an accomplishment that he did or something he did 2,000 years ago. He is still doing resurrection today. He is still LIFE. You have that power in your to RISE and LIVE. The enemy loves to make you believe that you are weak, useless and unusable. The enemy doesn’t want you to know that because of JESUS you have the power to RISE above those negative thoughts. You have the power to rise above body image. You have the power to RISE above anxiety and depression. You have the power to RISE above being fired or laid off. You have the ability to RISE above hate and heartbreak.
Do not live another day not knowing the power you hold. You can RISE. Jesus died and ROSE so you could be free from your sin and you could RISE UP.
Be real with yourself. Ask this question:
What do you need to RISE UP from today?
I don’t know your story. But I know that we are all broken somewhere. We are all hurting. We all need to RISE up from something in our lives today. For me, that’s fear of the future. But today, I am not going to worry about my future because God’s got it. I am going to remember that there is resurrection power inside of me and I will RISE above those fears.
I challenge you to do the same. Learn to RISE.
